🔬 Lab: Soares Quantitative Ecology Lab

📅 Start Date: Winter 2026 (flexible)
📍 Locations: University of Regina (Canada) or Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil)

🌍 Research Focus

Selected students will work on:

  • AI-driven biodiversity monitoring in freshwater ecosystems.
  • Predicting aquatic food web structure using computational tools.
  • Large-scale patterns in freshwater ecology and macroecology.
  • Collaboration with Brazilian partners (Drs. Lucas Colares & Karoline CerĂłn).

🎯 Key Objectives:

  • Develop quantitative models for ecosystem analysis.
  • Integrate field data, AI, and network theory to address ecological questions.
  • Contribute to international research with fieldwork/exchange opportunities.

âś… Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in 🌊 freshwater ecology, 📊 ecological networks, or 🤖 data science.
  • Skills in statistics, programming (R/Python), or GIS.
  • Interest in tropical/temperate ecosystems and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
